The good, the bad, and the ugly (January 12, 2014)

Distracted driving, Telecommunications, Political issues

Jamaica looks set to introduce legislation to ban the use of electronic devices while driving, during the current legislative year (ending March). People drive and use phones with abandon here, though it’s not apparent that this is behind many of the road accidents.

Digicel and Flow/Columbus Communications Jamaica both suffered alleged ‘sabotabe’ of their Jamaica networks, causing major disruptions this week. A combined reward of J$1 million has been posted for information on perpetrators. Reasons? Some speculate that it may be related to witness intimidation in a prominent legal case. Really!

Very ugly! Christ Christie’s staffers who were behind the closure of lanes on the Screen Shot 2014-01-11 at 3.52.35 PMGeorge Washington Bridge last summer, which resulted in major traffic delays. I like the theory put forward by Rachel Maddow, that this was retribution in a fight with Democrats over nominees for state Supreme Court positions. Kudos to The New Yorker for their irreverence.

The ‘polar vortex‘ and very sub-zero temperatures in North America. No need to have a taste of that, thank you.
