The good, the bad, and the ugly (August 18): Moscow edition

Good:
Moscow World Championships: Triple gold medal winners (100, 200, 4×100 relays, both)–Usian Bolt 9.77 seconds, 19.66 seconds; Shelly-Ann Pryce 10.71 seconds, 22.17 seconds. Championship record for women’s 4×100 relay team. Silver: men’s 4×400 relay team: what a run! Warren Weir 200 meters. Bronze: Sherron Stewart. Kimberly Williams missing bronze by 3 cms. Kudos to everyone on Team Jamaica. Jamaica match USA in gold medal tally.

Haitian government carried out first raid to enforce new ban on plastic bags and foam fast food container.

My wife makes a fashionista appearance in the Daily Observer on page 2, sporting a Michael Kors LBD–a lady friend explained to me what that means.

Bad
Disqualification of Jamaican 4×400 relay team for lane violation on first leg in heats. I’m sure the runner feels really bad but that’s careless and the stuff of primary school days.

Ugly
Violence erupts in Egypt after camps housing Morsi supporters bulldozed. Government reprisals result in many deaths: count over 640, and rising. Grim.
